Trening jest niezbędnym elementem rozwoju. Wiedzą o tym sportowcy, muzycy, tancerze i ... malarze. Degas wielokrotnie podejmował ten sam temat studiując światło, ruch i kolor. Nie każda próba kończy się dobrze. Ten obraz artysta podarował swojemu kolekcjonerowi w zamian za inną pracę, którą zaczął przemalowywać i ...niechcący zniszczył. Zakupiona przez amerykańską kolekcjonerkę za rekordową, jak na owe czasy kwotę za pracę żyjącego artysty, została ostatecznie przekazana nowojorskiej MET. Jej kolorystyka była motywem przewodnim mojej interpretacji. Warto zwrócić uwagę również na kompozycję: konewka, w lewym dolnym rogu równoważy postaci tancerek. Jest nieodłączną częścią obrazu, tak jak wówczas była istotnym elementem wyposażenia sal ćwiczebnych - za jej pomocą zwilżano podłogę, by w czasie tańca nie wzbijały się w powietrze tumany kurzu. Training is an essential part of development. Athletes, musicians, dancers and ... painters know about it. Degas has taken up the same topic many times studying light, movement and color. Not every attempt ends well. The artist gave this painting to his collector in exchange for another work, which he began to repaint and ... accidentally destroyed. Purchased by an American collector for a record amount for the work of a living artist at the time, it was finally transferred to the MET New York. Its colors were the leitmotif of my interpretation. Focus also on the composition: the watering can, in the lower left corner balances the figures of the dancers. It is an inseparable part of the painting, just as it was then an essential element of the classroom equipment - used to moisten the floor so that clouds of dust would not rise up during the dance.
